This Inline RCD adaptor is a portable safety electrical cut-off switch (RCD05) ideal for use in indoor and outdoor locations. It is heavy construction makes it ideal for building sites or around the house, patio area, workshop, garage, garden or any place where an electrical tool or extension cord would normally be used. The degree of protection can also be used in damp and wet conditions.
The In-Line rcd works by constantly monitoring the balance of the current flow in both active and neutral wires of the tool and lead being used. If an imbalance occurs, as it would if the tool became faulty and current leaded to earth (possibly through the body of the user), the portable safety switch would detect thie imbalance and immediately cut off the power before a fatal amount could pass.
The loss of current to earth needs to be 10 milliamps (ten thousandths of an amp) for the in-line rcd to respond by immediately cutting off the power. The time that a person is exposed to an electric shock is a crucial factor in determining the severity of the accident. That's exactly where the RCD05 is a life saver, simply due to the fast responce time of cutting any power supply, so fast it acts within 30 milliseconds (thirty thousandths of a second) this dramatically reduces the risk of electrocution.
D.C. Pulse Sensitivity: Type A
Rated Operational Voltage: 220 - 240v
Rated Current: 16 Amp
Rated Residual Operating Current: 10mA
Typical Tripping Time: 10mS
Range of Ambient Air Temperature: -25 ~ 40C
IP Rating: IP55
Type: Non-Latching
In the latching or Passive units the RCD will remain closed, once set, and will only trip when a hazardous earth fault occurs. If the unit loses supply - perhaps in a power cut - it will stay latched, making it particularly useful in commercial applications, such as controlling refrigeration units
Non latching versions like this one, provide protection from electrical faults, but once the unit has tripped it must be reset manually, ideal for home and office applications.
